Janet Oyuga's family in Kenya is still waiting for her body to be flown home after she was shot dead in Seattle, US, on January 13, 2020. The burial, initially set for January 11, 2020, at their parents' home in Gem, Siaya County, has been delayed due to travel hitches.
According to her sister Sophie Oyuga, funds had already been raised to fly the body home, but the only thing left was to get a flight. However, the family is now unsure when Janet's remains will be flown to Kenya.
Janet and her sister Angela were attacked by an elderly woman, Beverly Jenne, who had sold her home to the sisters and was staying with them. Angela survived the attack but suffered serious injuries. Jenne has been charged with second-degree murder and assault.
Janet's mother, Sarah Oyuga, confirmed the postponement of her daughter's burial, but was optimistic it would take place as soon as possible. A requiem mass was held in Seattle, and another is planned in Kenya when the body arrives.
Meanwhile, Beverly Jenne, the suspect, attempted to commit suicide after the incident but is currently facing charges.
