On January 13, 2020, the FIBA Afro-Basketball pre-qualifiers kicked off in Nairobi, with Kenya's national team facing Eritrea in their opening match.
According to FIBA rules, the host nation gets to choose the team to play in the opening match, giving their fans something to cheer about on the first day of the tournament.
Kenya's head coach, Cliff Owour, explained that they decided to face Eritrea in the opening match because it's essential for the team to perform well from the start.
The five-day tournament brings together five teams, including Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Eritrea, with the winner qualifying for the main FIBA Afro basketball qualifiers next year.
