Mombasa Pastor Confronted by Prostitutes Over Unpaid Services

Published on January 13, 2020

A dramatic scene unfolded at a Matatu terminus in Saba Saba, Mombasa, when a group of prostitutes cornered and surrounded a clergyman, demanding that he pays Sh1,000 for services he allegedly procured from one of their own.

The incident occurred at around 7pm, catching commuters waiting to board matatus by surprise. The group of 10 women claimed that the clergyman had promised to pay their colleague the money after a two-hour conference in a famous brothel, but left her high and dry.

The clergyman, who identified himself as Tony Matitu, a pastor with a church in Mshomoroni area of Kisauni, denied the allegations, stating that he had gone to Saba Saba to withdraw some money from a bank agent shop near the brothel for a church project.

He claimed that the women must have trailed him from the bank and wanted to rob him, adding that he had never slept with a prostitute in his lifetime.

However, a group of taxi drivers from across the road intervened, demanding that the pastor be listened to. They blocked the women, who had emptied the man's pocket and attempted to leave the scene.

The taxi drivers, who had doubted the sex workers' allegations, bought the man's side of the story and descended on the women with kicks and blows, while frisking them to recover the money they had taken from the cleric.

The prostitutes took a good beating and had their outfits shredded before they were let go of, almost fully naked. The man got back his money and thanked the drivers for rescuing him.
