On Monday, Egerton University students clashed with police in running battles over a damage fee imposed on seven student leaders.
The university's Senate had imposed a 16,862 shilling fine on the seven students, who were accused of inciting a strike on December 4, 2019.
Following the unrest, the institution was shut down, and students were sent home.
The seven student leaders have been suspended indefinitely and barred from sitting for the end of semester exams scheduled to start within the month.
According to the university's vice-chancellor, Prof. Rose Mwonya, the student leaders will be kept away from the campuses until the senate lifts the ban.
