Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £65 million bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, a move that could bolster their struggling midfield.
The 25-year-old Portuguese star has been in scorching form this season, scoring 15 goals in 24 appearances for Sporting, and has also caught the attention of Tottenham.
United's interest in Fernandes comes as they look to strengthen their midfield, with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay both out injured.
According to reports, United's initial offer of a player-plus-cash deal was rebuffed by Sporting, who are said to value Fernandes at £50 million, rising to £65 million with add-ons.
United are said to be willing to meet Sporting's valuation if they are to sign Fernandes this month, with talks between the two clubs ongoing.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he has the backing of the club's owners to make a significant transfer in this window, but refused to comment on individual players.
