On January 12, 2020, Kariobangi Sharks made a significant move in the Kenyan Premier League by signing Derrick Onyango from Wazito on a three-year deal.
This signing marks the second major acquisition for the club, following the capture of Boniface Mwangeni from Dagoretti High School.
Team CEO Robert Maoga expressed his excitement about the new signing, stating that Onyango will bring much-needed quality to the team's forward line.
Maoga revealed that the club had initially decided not to sign any experienced players, but Onyango's availability on a free transfer made it an opportunity they couldn't pass up.
Onyango made his debut for Kariobangi Sharks in a 2-1 loss to Mathare United in the Slum Derby at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Maoga also announced that the team will not be signing any more players in the ongoing mid-season transfer window, which closes on January 31.
