On January 12, 2020, Kenya's Rhonex Kipruto made history by breaking the 10km world marathon record in Valencia, clocking an impressive 26:23.

According to World Athletics, Kipruto's achievement surpassed the previous record held by Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei.

Notably, Kipruto also set a new half-way split record, improving the 5km world record by 13 minutes and 18 seconds.

Kenya's dominance continued as Benard Kimeli took the second position in the World Athletics Gold Label road race, clocking 27:12, just one second ahead of Switzerland's Julien Wanders, who set a European record of 27:13.

Meanwhile, Sheila Chepkirui broke the women's 10km world marathon record in a time of 29:42, solidifying her position as the second-fastest woman of all time, according to World Athletics.

Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui's performance was remarkable, as she shaved off 11 seconds from her previous personal best set in Prague last year, achieving a time under 30 minutes for the first time in a 10km road race.

The women's category saw Kenya's Rosemary Wanjiru and steeplechase specialist Norah Jeruto both clocking 29:51 to take second and third positions, respectively.
