January 12, 2020, marked a significant moment in the music industry with news of an upcoming Rihanna album. The highly anticipated project has garnered attention from fans and artists alike, including Jamaican-American reggae singer Shaggy.

Shaggy, 51, revealed in a recent interview that he was approached by Rihanna's team to feature on the album. However, he was asked to audition for the project, which he declined.

"They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah," Shaggy told the Daily Star. "There's a lot of great people involved, but for me, I didn't need to audition to be on the record. I'll leave that to younger guys. But from what I hear, it should be good."

Despite not collaborating with Rihanna, Shaggy expressed his support for artists taking inspiration from the dancehall genre. He believes that healthy competition and cross-cultural collaborations can only benefit the art form.

"It's healthy competition. Dancehall is in a good place, but we need as many people to do this art form as possible," Shaggy said. "When it crosses over and becomes popular with artists from other genres and other cultures, that can only be good."
