On Friday, Nyeri Governor Kahiga issued cheques to 60 students who scored 350 marks and above in their KCPE examinations last year, under the 'Governors Bursary Scholarship Scheme.'

The scholarship is modelled after Equity Bank's Wings to Fly and the National Government's Elimu Kenya Scholarship Fund, aiming to support extremely vulnerable students.

Speaking at the event, Governor Kahiga said the normal bursary kitty was inadequate to cater for the needs of some of the very vulnerable cases, prompting him to introduce the initiative of fully sponsoring the education of two students from each of the 30 wards in the county.

He also assured the students that they would be able to complete their education smoothly, as long as they maintained good results in their exams and high standards of discipline.

Additionally, Governor Kahiga called on parents to play their parental role in moulding their children to be useful citizens in the future.
