On January 10, 2020, Jubilee nominated MP Maina Kamanda gave his assurance that Central Kenya would support Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i for the Prime Minister position under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking in Kisii County during the first BBI consultative forum, Maina Kamanda praised Matiang'i, saying he was a hardworking civil servant who was the engine of the Jubilee government.
“Matiang’i is a hardworking civil servant who is the engine of the Jubilee government,” Kamanda noted.
He called on residents from the Gusii region to protect their son, saying that when the right time comes, Central Kenya would throw their weight behind the CS for the PM post.
“Even the work done by cabinet secretaries from Central cannot be compared to that of Matiang’i,” Kamanda said amid wild cheers from the crowd.
During the meeting, ODM leader Raila Odinga said the Building Bridges Initiative was the only way to take Kenyans to the ‘promised land’.
“BBI is the only bridge to take us to Canaan,” he said.

Raila added that the country would be united by the BBI, which was born out of the handshake between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9, 2018.
He said that there would be more consultative forums across the country to educate locals about what the BBI report contains.
