On January 11, 2020, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula issued a directive to the administration of President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the progress of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Speaking at the BBI Western Forum in Kakamega County, Wetangula emphasized the need for the government to print hard copies of the report and distribute them to Kenyans, especially in rural areas.
According to Wetangula, many Kenyans in rural areas lack the technical know-how to download the report online, and therefore, the government should make it accessible to them through hard copies.
He suggested that the hard copies should be made available at public gatherings such as churches, markets, and other places with social gatherings.
Wetangula also faulted the ODM party leaders for politicizing the content of the report and focusing only on the nine proposals, rather than the overall implications of the report.
His remarks come a day after Deputy President William Ruto criticized Raila Odinga's campaign as a waste of time, but also suggested that more copies of the report should be made available to Kenyans.
“Spend that money to print hard copies of the BBI report and circulate to Kenyans to read, understand and appreciate. We have been calling for printing of the document but the government has been asking people to download it online. How will mama mboga at Mbale market who lacks technical know-how download it?” Wetangula wondered.
“There are people who think the BBI report is now their new road to Damascus. That it is is going to turn them from Saul to Paul. It will not work. The BBI had nine questions touching on every aspect of our lives but we are now seeing a isolation of one single selfish issue on sharing of power,” he added.
