Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing intense pressure to strengthen his squad, with seven players out injured, including first-choice centre midfield duo Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

However, Solskjaer has insisted that he will not sign players just to save his own skin, and will always put the interests of the club ahead of his own.

“No, not at all,” Solskjaer said. “I'm not going to protect myself. I'm going to do what's best for the club, what I think and we feel is right for the club and I will never put myself before the club.

“For me there's no 'I' in this team and I could never, ever do that, that’s not me. I'm working for Manchester United, not for me.

Despite the pressure, Solskjaer has warned United fans not to expect much business in this month's window, ahead of Saturday's game at home to Norwich.

“We've still got the same thoughts we had a month ago,” Solskjaer said. “We've got the players we have, we're working with the ones we have and, if something happens, we'll tell you.

Former United skipper Gary Neville had previously suggested that Solskjaer needed to sign players this month to safeguard his position, with his job under threat.
