On January 11, 2020, Embakasi East legislator Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino sparked outrage with his threat to shave Kandara MP Alice Wahome, sparking a fierce backlash from Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.

Passaris fired back at Babu Owino, suggesting he should shave his wife Fridah Muthoni before shaving any other woman, in a move aimed at highlighting the absurdity of his threat.

Passaris expressed her disappointment at Babu's remarks, stating that his threats amounted to defilement and advising him to respect women.

“Babu respect women. You can only shave your wife not a fellow legislator, or any other woman without their explicit consent,” Passaris advised.

Passaris also asked Babu to withdraw the threat, stating that it was demeaning and beyond recognised political banter parameters.

“I am extremely disappointed with this post. Pull it down. There’re boundaries we should not cross,” Passaris stated.
