January 10, 2020, was a day Kenyans will not forget soon. Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri sparked a wave of memes on social media after asking Kenyans to take photos of insects they thought were locusts.

Long-horned variegated grasshoppers, which have always existed, were mistaken for desert locusts. Kiunjuri's call to action was met with hilarious responses from Kenyans.

CS Kiunjuri, could this be a locust? — Jacounty044 (@OgolaDaddy) January 10, 2020

Others also joined in, sharing their own photos and asking Kiunjuri to confirm whether they were locusts.

Despite the lighthearted tone, the locust infestation remains a serious issue. The government has deployed the Kenya Defence Forces to fight the infestation.
