On January 11, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya sent a message of condolence to the people of Oman after the passing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said.

The Sultan, who ruled Oman for nearly five decades, died at the age of 79 after a long illness.

President Kenyatta described Sultan Qaboos as a great leader who was devoted to improving the wellbeing of his fellow countrymen and committed to international peace.

"Sultan Qaboos was a great leader who was devoted to improving the wellbeing of his fellow countrymen. He was also committed to international peace and worked hard towards promoting peace and stability in the Middle East," the President said.

President Kenyatta also recalled the historical ties between Kenya and Oman, particularly the pre-colonial commercial ties between Mombasa and the Sultanate, and described the late Sultan as a "quiet peacemaker".
