On January 10, 2020, at 10pm, suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists launched an attack on Olla Police Post in Mandera County, Kenya.
However, the police were able to repulse the attack, with no injuries reported, according to officials.
Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kathya stated that the attackers initially targeted a telecommunication mast but failed to bring it down, prompting them to storm the police post.
"There was heavy exchange of fire and a water bowser which was parked at the police post was destroyed," Commissioner Kathya said.
Mandera has been a hotspot for Al-Shabaab militants due to its proximity to Somalia, where the militants carry out attacks before escaping back.
Over time, a number of security personnel have lost their lives as a result of these attacks, which have included improvised explosive devices placed on roadsides by Al-Shabaab militants.
