Mombasa Man Charged with Incitement, Printing Own Flag

On January 7, 2020, a Mombasa man was charged before a Mombasa Law Court with incitement to violence by printing a flag with the words 'Singwaya Government' and uttering words 'Pwani si Kenya.'

The court heard that the accused, Jambo Mwinyikombo Gojama, had printed the words at Mbuyu wa Chapa area in Jomvu sub-county without a lawful excuse.

The prosecution alleged that the actions had led communities living in the area to live in fear.

The man faced two counts of incitement to violence, with the second count alleging that he had uttered words that 'Pwani si Kenya' on the same date, together with others not in court.

He denied the charges and was released on a Sh300,000 bond and a surety of similar amount.

The matter will come up for pre-trial on January 23, 2020.
