Man Sentenced to 8 Years in Jail for Assaulting Brother Over Sh100 Debt

On December 10, last year, a dispute over a Sh100 debt led to a violent confrontation between Nelson Cheruiyot Rono and his younger brother, Samwel Kipkemboi Rono, at their home in Kenegut, Kericho County.

According to court records, Nelson Cheruiyot Rono was accused of assaulting his brother, occasioning him grievous bodily harm.

During a hearing at the Kericho Court on Thursday, Nelson Cheruiyot Rono claimed that he had attacked his brother while under the influence of alcohol.

However, the court found him guilty of committing the heinous act intentionally and sentenced him to eight years in jail.

Chief Magistrate Samuel Mokua delivered the judgment, stating that the accused's actions had caused his brother serious harm, including impairing his speech and causing paralysis on the left side of his body.
