January 11, 2020, marked a sad day for the media fraternity as Anjlee Gadhvi, a celebrated news anchor, succumbed to liver cancer at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

Gadhvi, who had been battling the disease since 2013, had been open about her treatment options, including seeking care outside the country. In 2013, she was diagnosed with liver cancer and had undergone various treatments, including chemotherapy and a cyberknife procedure in India.

Four years ago, a public fundraising campaign was launched to help Gadhvi raise funds for her treatment. The campaign was successful, and she was able to raise over Sh6 million within a few hours.

Despite her efforts, the cancer reappeared, and Gadhvi had to undergo further treatment. In 2018, she traveled to India for a cyberknife procedure, which involves radiation of cancer cells on the full body.

"The body and disease have responded to this form of treatment, and I had to finish what was left. Praying done and over!" Gadhvi reported on her social media after the procedure.

However, the cancer returned, and Gadhvi had to undergo another round of treatment. In a video shared with her Twitter followers, she explained to her 5-year-old daughter why she had to leave the country for two weeks for specialized treatment in India.

"Aga Khan has those machines, but my doctor is in India, and he knows how to check my chest better. So far, I'm doing better; I don't need oxygen all the time, I don't need to nebulize all the time," she explained to her daughter.

Journalists, friends, and family have left messages of condolence, praising Gadhvi's brave fight and her jovial spirit that she carried to the end.
