On January 10, 2020, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi visited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to express concerns about his safety.

Maangi, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, claimed that a group of armed police officers stormed his home in Kisii town and demanded to take his official car.

According to Maangi, his domestic staff handed over the car keys, and the officers drove the vehicle away.

Maangi alleged that the incident occurred at around 4 am, and he believed that the officers were attempting to tow away county government-allocated vehicles.

He also reported that on January 6, 2020, he was trailed by a white pickup truck with government registration numbers while traveling from Nairobi to Kisii.

Maangi's driver managed to evade the pickup, and he took a different route.

Maangi has since reported the incidents to the police, and investigations are ongoing.
