On January 10, 2020, the Kenyan media community lost a shining star with the passing of news anchor Anjlee Gadhvi, who had been fighting liver cancer for over seven years.
Diagnosed with liver cancer in 2013, Anjlee only publicly disclosed her condition in 2015, after treatment had drained her family's and friends' resources. However, the outpouring of support from Kenyans was overwhelming, with over Sh6 million raised to aid her treatment.
Despite her cancer going into remission at one point, it unfortunately returned, and Anjlee continued to receive treatment, including radiotherapy sessions in 2018. Her determination and courage inspired many, including her colleagues and fans, who took to social media to express their condolences.
As news of her passing spread, tributes poured in, with Peter Opondo writing,
"Oh my friend @AnjleeGadhvi You fought that cancer beast with all your might. You did it for your kids, husband. Never lost hope. You always smiled through the pain & insisted on coming to work even at your weakest points. We believed you were winning…until now! RIP my friend."
May Anjlee Gadhvi rest in peace.
