On a visit to the Kisii Immigration office and Civil Registration on January 10, 2020, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i announced a major overhaul of the passport issuance process.
According to the CS, the new system will see applicants receive their passports within three days, down from the previous seven-day wait.
"We have had people waiting for seven days for their passports, but applicants will now get their passports after three days. We want to reduce these delays even further to a day," said Dr Matiang'i.
During his visit, Dr Matiang'i also commended the same-day service policy at the Birth and Deaths office, citing a significant reduction in complaints from Kenyans regarding delays.
He warned that his ministry will not tolerate bribery or corruption in the issuance of key documents, cautioning public officers against such practices.
"We do not want long queues and brokers in these offices. We will streamline issuance of services and will not condone nonsense," Dr Matiang'i warned.
