On January 1, 2019, Lucy Wanjiku allegedly assaulted her 21-year-old neighbour, Gitahi Wambui, at Mawanga Estate in Nakuru County. According to court records, Wanjiku bit off Wambui's left-hand middle finger, which was later amputated due to swelling and darkening.

Wanjiku was initially charged on January 14, 2019, and denied the allegations. She was released on a Sh10,000 bond with an alternative bail of Sh5,000, which she paid. However, she failed to appear in court on January 17, 2019, and again on February 8, 2019, resulting in warrants of arrest being issued.

The case was scheduled for mention in March, but the prosecution asked the court to extend the warrants of arrest and forfeit the Sh5,000 bail on August 30. Wanjiku was finally arrested on January 8, 2020, while aboard a matatu at Mawanga, after the victim's mother spotted her.

On January 9, 2020, Wanjiku was presented in court, where Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo ordered her detention. When asked where she was, Wanjiku claimed she was unwell. The case will be mentioned on January 20, 2020.
