On Thursday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Kenya Police arrested three suspects in Kamukunji, Nairobi, in possession of stolen vehicle parts.
The suspects were apprehended at Kombo Munyiri off Landhies Road, following reports of rampant motor vehicle parts and accessories theft in the area.
During interrogation, the suspects were found to be in possession of assorted motor vehicle parts, including wheel caps, motor vehicle logos, and side mirrors.
According to the DCI, a search of the suspects' premises resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of stolen vehicle parts, including wheel caps, motor vehicle logos, side mirrors, door locks, wipers, indicators, and headlamps.
"A search into the three structures where the individuals were operating from resulted in the recovery of assorted motor vehicle parts, including wheel caps, motor vehicle logos, side mirrors, door locks, wipers, indicators, and headlamps, items that the three suspects could not give a proper account of," the DCI said in a tweet on Friday.
The suspects will be charged with having in their possession suspected stolen property contrary to Section 323 of the Penal Code, and the recovered items will be presented as exhibit.
This arrest comes on the heels of a similar operation in September last year, where police recovered a stockpile of motor vehicle spare parts in three garages used by a suspected gang of car thieves in Kasarani, Nairobi.
