Kenya's Tourism Industry Sees Record Growth in 2019

Kenya's tourism industry achieved a remarkable milestone in 2019, generating 163.6 billion shillings, a 3.9 percent increase from the previous year.

According to the Tourism Sector Performance Report, international arrivals played a significant role in this growth, increasing by 1.16 during the period.

Notably, tourists from France and Rwanda contributed to the surge in arrivals, with Kenya Airways being identified as a major challenge for the industry in 2020.

Additionally, arrivals through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) rose by 6.07 percent during the year under review.

Speaking on the matter, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala attributed the growth to the increase in international arrivals and noted that Kenya Airways remains a significant challenge for the industry in the coming year.
