On January 10, 2020, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman, Joyce Wanja, at Royal Media Services Studios in Nairobi.

According to Wanja, Kuria assaulted her after she had asked him to retract some of the statements he had made about women at a function to help orphans in Kiambu the previous week.

Wanja, a media commentator, claimed that Kuria descended on her with slaps and blows while she was in her line of duty preparing to go on air for Inooro TV Kirîrîmbi show.

Four witnesses who were present at the time of the incident have said they are ready to testify against the MP.

Wanja pleaded with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the police to ensure she gets justice, stating that if not punished, the MP will make it a habit of abusing and assaulting women.
