On January 10, 2020, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was arrested by the police following allegations of assaulting a woman at Royal Media studios on December 8, 2019.

The woman, Joyce Wanja, had previously made claims of being assaulted by Mr. Kuria during a show on Wanjiku TV, where they discussed the Building Bridges Initiative.

Ms. Wanja alleged that Mr. Kuria had beaten her up after she told him that his remarks at a children's fundraiser in Kiambu County were inappropriate.

"It was then that he stood and punched me, knocking me down. Those present helped me," Ms. Wanja said in a past interview.

Ms. Wanja had recorded a statement, obtained a P3 form, and had witnesses record statements, but she claimed that nothing had been done about the case.

She appealed for help from the government, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, and other relevant authorities, saying she could not afford a lawyer.

Mr. Kuria was taken to Kilimani Police Station, according to Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Lucas Ogara.

County Commander Philip Ndolo stated that Mr. Kuria would be taken to court later on January 10, 2020.
