On January 6, 2020, a tragic incident shook the community of Mutitu, Kitui East, when a mob brutally murdered and lynched Daisy Mbathe, a dedicated teacher at Ndooni Primary School.

The alleged motive behind the heinous crime was the school's poor performance in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Two suspects, Wambua Mwangangi and Chris Kyalo Muli, were arraigned in a Kitui court on Thursday, where they faced charges related to the murder.

The Kitui Resident Magistrate, Felistus Nekesa, granted an application by Mutito criminal detectives to detain the suspects at Mutitu Police Station for 21 days, pending further investigations.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has since withdrawn six teachers from the school, condemning the incident as a serious threat to the teaching fraternity in Kitui.

The school has been closed indefinitely, and the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been urged to leave no stone unturned in bringing all culprits to justice.
