Published on January 10, 2020, Kenya is seeking a KSh10 billion grant from the World Bank to enhance its fisheries sector and diversify its earnings from the blue economy.

The grant aims to improve the country's fishing industry by funding the purchase of modern fishing gear, which will enable fishermen to venture into deep-sea fishing.

Already, 100 fishermen from Kwale County have received training on modern fishing techniques, marine law, and sustainable fishing practices.

The World Bank grant is in addition to the KSh2.5 billion grant the European Union gave the coastal counties to develop blue economy infrastructure in the region.

Kenya has been a significant beneficiary of World Bank loans, ranking third among the highest recipients.
