Published on January 10, 2020, the 2020 Henley Passport Index ranks the Kenyan passport as the 9th strongest in Africa, allowing holders to travel to 71 countries visa-free. Globally, the Kenyan passport ranks 72nd, tied with China and Indonesia.

While its position has weakened over the last decade, the Kenyan passport remains one of the most valued passports in Africa. In 2010, the passport ranked 64th globally, accessing only 65 countries without a visa.

According to the Henley Passport Index, Seychelles has the most powerful passport in Africa, accessing up to 151 countries without a visa. Mauritius ranks second with 146 countries, followed by South Africa with 100 countries.

On a global scale, Japan holds the record for the world's most powerful passport, accessing 191 countries visa-free. Singapore and South Korea follow closely, with 190 and 189 countries accessible without a visa, respectively.
