On January 10, 2020, a Nairobi-based celebrity left a hotel staff and customers stunned after failing to clear his KSh 20k bill.
The celebrity, a famous musician, had invited his six friends to a 3-star hotel for a celebration of his fifth album release.
He promised his friends he would pay the bill and told them to order everything they wanted, saying, 'You guys, we are celebrating my fifth album and let’s turn this place up and celebrate.'
However, when the bill was brought to him, he was shocked to find that it had escalated to four times the money he had, leaving him with only KSh 5,000 in his pocket.
He asked his friends to help him raise the bill and the six of them left one by one, with the celebrity pretending to be picking a phone call to escape.
The hotel noted his absence five minutes later and asked the security guards to look for him, but he had already fled.
The next day, the hotel owner called the celebrity and asked him to pay the bill, but he declined and talked rudely to the manager, telling her he was a famous person who would survive even court cases.
Desperate to recover the lost money, the hotel owner sought help from a traditional herbalist, Doctor Mugwenu, who assured her that he would ensure the bill was paid to the last coin within less than 24 hours.
At 8 o'clock the next morning, the celebrity returned to the hotel, crying and holding the 20k in his hands, pleading for forgiveness from the manager.
The manager was so elated that she immediately called Doctor Mugwenu and thanked him for his help.
