Japanese Businessman Sues Kenyan Lawyer in Sh79m Gold Scam

Published on January 9, 2020, a Japanese businessman has taken a Kenyan lawyer to court for his alleged involvement in a Sh79.2 million gold scam.

Asano Tatsunori, a Tokyo resident, accuses Joel Kimutai Bosek of professional negligence for allegedly colluding with local gold dealers to defraud him.

The scam, which occurred in 2017, involved Tatsunori's World Gateway Japan Company Limited buying gold from Customs Cargo Handlers, a Kenyan firm.

According to court documents, Tatsunori paid Bosek Sh5.5 million in legal fees and Sh67.5 million for the gold via the law firm.

Tatsunori is seeking $729,980 (Sh72.98 million) in special damages from Bosek.
