On January 7, 2020, a newborn baby was stolen from his mother, Victoria Zubeida, just two days after birth at Mikindani Medical Centre in Jomvu sub-county. Miraculously, the baby, Brown Njuguna, was found alive and well 48 hours later.
According to Dr. Benjamin Kabara, a medical examination at Mikindani Medical Centre revealed that the baby was unstable, unkempt, had a fever of over 40 degrees, and was severely dehydrated. The baby had not fed since his discharge from the facility on Tuesday around 5 pm.
"We have managed to resuscitate the baby and taken care of the initial dehydrated status. We have stabilised the vitals. At birth, he weighed 2.9 kilogrammes but he is now 2.3 kilogrammes. He has lost a lot of weight," said Dr. Kabara.
The baby's father, David Muya, expressed gratitude to God, terming the baby's survival a miracle. "I am grateful to God, that is all I can say. This is indeed a miracle. I am very emotional, please allow me time to let it sink in and thank God. I was not sleeping thinking harm might have befallen my son," he said at Jomvu sub-county police station.
The baby will be moved to Coast Provincial General Hospital for specialised neonatal care. A specialist will examine him to determine if he has any other underlying conditions.
