On January 6, 2020, a group of parents stormed Ndooni Primary School in Kitui County, leading to its closure. The incident resulted in the murder of teacher Daisy Mbaluke, who was reportedly burned to death.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has since withdrawn six teachers from the school, citing concerns over their security. In a letter, the commission condemned the murder and stated that it will not hesitate to take measures to protect its employees, including petitioning for the closure of institutions where their safety is at risk.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Secretary-General Akelo Misori expressed alarm over the rising cases of violent attacks on public school teachers. He urged Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to close the school to allow for a proper investigation.

Police in Mutitu, Kitui East, arrested two suspects, Wambua Mwangangi and Chris Kyalo Muli, in connection with the murder. Kitui East Police Commander Consaga Malasi described the incident as a 'well-orchestrated act of murder' and stated that more suspects are being pursued.
