On January 9, 2020, history was made at the Palais polyvalent des sports (Paposy) Arena in Nairobi, as Malkia Strikers secured their spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
After 16 years of heartbreak and near-misses, the team, led by coach Paul Bitok, finally achieved their goal, defeating Nigeria 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) in their final match.
The team's journey to the Olympics began on Sunday, January 5, 2020, with a 3-1 win over Egypt, followed by a 3-0 victory over Botswana on Monday, January 6, 2020.
Their impressive performance continued on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, as they defeated hosts and arch-rivals Cameroon 3-2, putting them within a win of making a return to the Summer Games.
