On December 28, 2019, a horrific incident occurred at the Fire Administration Police line in Bondeni estate, Nakuru. Saka Achimba, a police officer, allegedly doused his ex-lover and her sister, Phanice and Ruth Nyabaro, with petrol and set them ablaze.

On January 9, 2020, Achimba appeared before Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo, where he denied charges of attempted murder. The prosecution, led by state counsel Nelly Waweru, objected to his release on bail, citing the critical condition of the two victims at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

However, the defence counsel argued that Achimba had a constitutional right to be granted bail, adding that his profession as a security officer made him a low flight risk. The matter will be mentioned on January 13, 2020.

Meanwhile, former Nakuru County Secretary Joseph Motari was also in court on January 9, 2020, facing charges of abuse of office. He was released on a 500,000 shillings bond, a surety of the same amount, or an alternative cash bail of 100,000 shillings. Motari was accused of unlawfully using his position to improperly confer a benefit to Johnson Kamau with an appointment to the position of water secretary on February 24, 2016. The case will be heard on January 13, 2020.
