Kenya's Best Teacher Peter Tabichi Meets Pope Francis in Rome

Published on January 9, 2020, Kenyan teacher Peter Tabichi, who was crowned the world's best teacher in 2019, has met with Pope Francis in Rome.

Tabichi, a teacher at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Nakuru County, was awarded Sh100 million for his achievement.

During the meeting at the Vatican's Santa Marta residence, Pope Francis told Tabichi, 'Pray for me, brother!' Tabichi replied, 'Pray for us and all the teachers.'

Tabichi, a Catholic Franciscan Brother, was recognized for his selflessness, giving away 80 percent of his monthly salary to help the poor.

He also inspires his students to succeed with limited resources and equipment, earning him the Global Teacher Prize in 2019.
