On January 9, 2020, the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tanzania in protecting children's rights.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Unicef Representative in Tanzania, Shalini Bahuguna, made the pledge during talks with Minister Palamagamba Kabudi in Dar es Salaam.

"The rights of children are paramount anywhere in the world, including Tanzania. Unicef will continue protecting Tanzanian children's rights including making sure that they are provided with basic needs," Bahuguna said.

Minister Kabudi thanked Unicef for its support in fulfilling Tanzania's agenda of protecting children's rights and improving their welfare.

Since 2016, the Tanzanian government, in collaboration with Unicef, has made significant improvements in the education and health sectors, as well as water supply in several regions, including Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Iringa, Kigoma, Njombe, and Songwe.
