On January 7, 2020, Kenya's athletics community was left in shock following the tragic death of Kenneth Njiru, a talented steeplechase athlete, in a road accident along the Nyeri-Nyahururu road.

Njiru, who was driving towards Nyahururu town, lost control of his car at the Equator area and collided head-on with a Toyota Land Cruiser heading towards Nyeri.
