Published on January 9, 2020, a man who jumped bail in a defilement case five years ago was yesterday charged afresh.

Morgan Otundo, the caretaker of Mercy Children's Home between June 2012 and November 2013, pleaded not guilty to six fresh charges read to him by State Counsel Gacharia Muriithi before Principal Magistrate Samson Temu.

He is accused of defiling six girls at the children's home in Nambale Sub-county, including a 13-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, and two 11-year-old girls.

According to the charge sheet, Otundo seduced and had sex with the 13-year-old girl, GI, during his tenure as caretaker.

Police have been searching for the accused after he jumped bail, and he was finally arrested on January 4 by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in his hideout in Kayole, Nairobi.

Otundo was first charged before Busia Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogolla on August 4, 2014, and was granted bond of Sh300,000 before he disappeared.
