Published on January 9, 2020, a budget crisis in Nyamira County has led to the halt of development projects worth Sh260 million.

The projects, part of the county's executive flagship programmes, were put on hold by the Nyamira County Assembly's Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman, Richard Onyinkwa.

According to Onyinkwa, the Sh260 million in question was part of Sh1.1 billion in unspent development balances from the 2018-19 financial year.

The amount was included in the county's supplementary budget, which is awaiting passage at the assembly.

Initially, the county had a deficit of Sh455 million, but after reconciliations, the questionable amount was reduced to Sh260 million, which the executive will explain.

Finance Executive Muga Omwanza denied claims that the county had not accounted for Sh260 million, dispelling claims that the county was grinding to a halt due to the budget crisis.
