On January 8, 2020, Kenya's government cited Miguna Miguna's unruly behavior as the reason for his denied travel to Nairobi by French and German airlines.
According to Colonel [retired] Cyrus Oguna, the government's spokesman, Miguna was classified as an unruly passenger in March 2018, in line with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and recommended practices.
These standards allow for the prohibition of unruly passengers, and Oguna stated that Miguna's behavior posed a threat to Kenya's key strategic interests.
“Further, this unruly behavior was seen to have the potential of threatening the category A1 status of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport which took the country a lot of effort to achieve,” Oguna said.
He emphasized that this category certifies that Kenya has implemented all necessary safety and security measures in its airports, an accomplishment the government is committed to protecting.
Despite the government's readiness to comply with court orders, Miguna was denied boarding on an airplane from Germany on Tuesday morning and was removed from another one in France as he attempted to travel back to Nairobi.
