Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a warning to owners of overstayed goods at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to claim their items within 30 days. Failure to do so will result in the auction of the goods on February 4, 2019.
According to a gazette notice dated January 3, 2020, the public is invited to view the goods at the customs warehouse on January 30 and 31. The notice, which is a requirement under the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, states that goods not claimed within 30 days will be sold by public auction.
Commissioner Jane Ombui, in a statement, noted that goods in the auction include personal items such as clothes and electronics, as well as equipment and spare parts. Some of the companies that risk losing their uncollected items include Airbus Helicopters, Toyota East Africa, and Mitsubishi.
A similar activity will take place at the Kisumu Forodha Warehouse for 1125 unclaimed bags of sugar. However, goods for the auction scheduled for February 4 are subject to KEBS approval.
