Published on January 8, 2020, a group of 70 families displaced by floods in Huruma village, Moi Ndabi, have been forced to camp at Wako Huruma Primary School.
Area Member of the County Assembly Gathariki Kamanu has appealed for assistance, citing the devastating impact of the floods on the local community.
Heavy rains in Maella and Sakutiek caused flooding in the lower areas, leaving a trail of destruction and destroying crops that were ready for harvesting.
According to MCA Kamanu, women and children were the most affected by the floods, with the road to Kongoni-Moi Ndabi-Maella rendered impassable.
Businessmen in the area have incurred heavy losses due to the closure of the road, with some resorting to using motorcycles to transport people and produce.
As part of disaster response initiatives, the county government has donated foodstuff and blankets to the affected families, with County Disaster Management Chief Officer Ann Njenga leading the distribution efforts.
The devolved unit has set aside Sh25 million for disaster management, a move that has been welcomed by the affected families.
