On the first day of the 2020 academic year, a tragic incident occurred at Randani Primary School in Kenyenya Sub-county of Kisii County.

A 13-year-old pupil bled to death after being allegedly stabbed by his classmate while they were clearing the school compound.

According to the Sub-county Police Commander, Philip Oyugi, the two minors were slashing grass in the school grounds when one of them threw his slasher, stabbing his friend on the right thigh.

The victim, Simon Obare, bled profusely from the injury and was left lying at the scene for a long duration as the teachers were held up in a staff meeting unaware of what had taken place.

Parents to the victim, Simon Obare and Mirriam Kerubo, have recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Simon's aunt, Gladys Ondara, expressed her sadness over the loss and called for justice and speedy investigations by relevant Government agencies.

"We are saddened with the loss but all we ask for is justice and speedy investigations by relevant Government agencies," said Ondara.

Neighbors have faulted the school administration for delaying to ferry the deceased to hospital for treatment, saying death should not have occurred.

The body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting burial preparations.
