On December 31, 2019, a police raid in their Kisauni neighbourhood thwarted Pastor Elisha Misiko Nyadoya's plans to kill his wife, Anne Maghanga, at their home.

Two years later, on a Sunday morning, Nyadoya stabbed his wife several times before turning the knife on himself on the pulpit at 10.30am as worshippers watched.

He died on the spot, while his wife died later while receiving treatment at the Coast Provincial General Hospital.

The 50-year-old pastor, who was a co-founder of Ground for God's Gospel Ministries in Bamburi, Mombasa, left behind a 17-page handwritten suicide note titled 'Betrayal and its Consequences.'

In the note, Nyadoya accused his wife of infidelity, conspiracy to swindle him of church property, and causing him to be held in police cells on false charges.

He also claimed his wife falsely accused him of sleeping with her relatives and that she had secretly started transferring church and personal properties to her name without his knowledge.

According to the note, Nyadoya and his wife had been pastors at Ground for God's Gospel 3G Ministries in Bamburi, Kiembeni, Mombasa, since 2005, and had two branches in Mombasa and Taita Taveta.

Anne ran the Taita Taveta branch, and the couple's children were being taken care of by their in-laws.

Police and church elders were aware of the planned marriage ceremony for Anne, which was slated for this Friday in Voi at their Chembani church.
