Former President Daniel Moi's health has been a subject of concern in recent years, with the 95-year-old leader facing several health scares, including a stint in the Intensive Care Unit in 2019.

As Moi's health continues to deteriorate, opposition leader Raila Odinga has reportedly expressed his desire to be the chief mourner at his funeral, a move seen as a gesture of goodwill and a bid to strengthen his ties with the Moi family.

According to sources close to Raila, the opposition leader has finally found it in his heart to forgive former President Moi and is willing to put aside their past differences to pay his respects.

During Moi's 24-year rule, Raila was among those who suffered brutality and incarceration, including torture, for opposing his regime.

However, in recent years, Raila has made several visits to Moi's home in Kabarak, sparking debate about possible political alliances with the Moi family.

Raila's bid to lead Moi's funeral procession has been welcomed by some, including ODM national chairperson John Mbadi, who sees it as an opportunity to promote national unity.

"Right now, His Excellency Raila Odinga is the symbol of national unity in the country and his active role in Moi's send-off as the chief mourner will be very important for the country," Mbadi explained.
