On Tuesday afternoon, a fatal road accident occurred on the Nyahururu – Nyeri Highway, claiming the life of a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer.

The accident happened when the vehicle driven by the officer lost control and collided head-on with a tour vehicle belonging to 'Team Wise Africa Tours', which had four Russian nationals on board.

According to Nyandarua North Sub-county Police Commander Timon Odingo, the driver of the tour vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to prevent the impact, which resulted in the death of the KDF officer.

Three tourists, who are of Russian nationality, sustained various injuries, including fractured hands and limps, and were admitted to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital.

The accident occurred just a few kilometers from the Kianungu blackspot, where eight people lost their lives in a similar accident early last year.

Residents have cited the poor design of the road and lack of bumps as contributing factors to the frequent accidents on the highway.

They have called on the government to consider placing bumps on the road to prevent such accidents in the future.

The body of the deceased KDF officer was moved to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital Mortuary, while the two vehicles were towed to Ndaragwa Police Station.
