On January 8, 2020, a devastating air disaster occurred in Iran when a Ukrainian Boeing-737 crashed just after take-off from Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran.

The aircraft, belonging to Ukraine International Airlines, was reportedly carrying more than 170 people, including passengers and crew, on a flight to Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.

According to Iran's Red Crescent, there is no chance of finding survivors, with the head of the organization stating it was 'impossible' for anyone to have survived the crash.

Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the area near the airport, where the aircraft crashed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the relatives and friends of all passengers and crew, stating that efforts were being made to establish the circumstances of the crash and the death toll.
