Kenya's beach volleyball team is gearing up for the Africa Zone Five sub-zonal Tokyo Olympic Games qualifiers in Tanzania, with the top two teams securing a spot in the Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Team captain Phoscah Kasisi, along with Gaudencia Makokha, Brackcides Agala, and Yvonne Wavinya, concluded their training at Flamingo Beach Hotel in Mombasa, ready for their departure to Tanzania on January 8, 2020.
The team will be accompanied by head coach Sammy Mulinge, assistant coaches Patrick Owino and Salome Wanjala, as they face off against teams from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and hosts Tanzania in the qualifiers, which will take place from January 10 to 12, 2020, at Balamwezi Beach in Dar es Salaam.
Young Sharon Jepkosgei, who had been part of the team, was released to resume her studies at Soin Primary School in Kapsabet, where she is in standard eight, as she prepares for her 2020 KCPE examinations.
Coach Mulinge stated that Jepkosgei's release was to allow her to focus on her studies and that the team would call her in future championships.
According to Captain Kasisi, the team has blended well during the residential camp and is focused on securing the top two slots in the first round, with the goal of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
